  • Today, September 17th, is Constitution Day.
  • The U.S. Constitution is the shortest constitution written by a major government.
  • It was not signed by Thomas Jefferson. He was in France at the time.
  • The first to come to Philadelphia for the Constitutional Convention was James Madison.
  • Benjamin Franklin was in poor condition and needed assistance with his signature.
  • Benjamin Franklin was the oldest to sign (age 81), and Jonathan Dayton was the youngest (age 26).
  • George Washington and James Madison were the only two that were presidents to sign it.
  • Since 1791, the Constitution has been changed only 17 times.
